CALCATERRA SS19 “The secret garden”
Vegetation grows spontaneously, making its way between wall and cement, covering hidden and abandoned places still full of emotions. The CALCATERRA spring-summer collection was born this way, appearing in a secret garden that blossomed almost by chance.
The entire collection breathes and lives among wild branches and abandoned cement reminiscent of old industrial ruins. Light, diaphanous figures move as if in another dimension where color, volume and material acquire new proportions
The noble surfaces of silk, linen and cotton are transformed into “new materials” thanks to the exclusive finishes which are at the bases of the brand’s stylistic research. Silk acquires the crisp lightness of paper, creating airy, sensuous forms. Cotton becomes technical and shaped, exasperating the geometry of the lines. Unexpected colors and fresh sidereal hues animate the color palette that moves from glacial pink to vanilla. Meanwhile, teal becomes vitreous and watery yet luminous next to delicate straw yellow. The bright orange of the Tarocco orange peel and lava gray alternate in a play of contrasting colors.
The industrial environment and its archeology are the new ideal of botanical rebirth, the “Secret Garden” where nature blooms, creating new balances and landscapes. Sounds blend with noises, creating a new rhythm and new music, accompanying the gaze between nineties volumes and the elegance of the thirties, in an eternal oscillation of time.
“…and in the grass under the trees and the grey urns in the alcoves and here and there everywhere, were touches or splashes of gold and purple and white and the trees were showing pink and snow above his head and there were flutterings of wings and faint sweet pipes and humming and scents and scents…”
Frances Hodgson Burnett, The Secret Garden
