IL TURCO YUSUF KALEM CONQUISTA IL REMIX GOLD PRIZE
For the second year in a row, Milan hosted REMIX, the international competition for fashion and fur designers organized by the International Fur Federation in cooperation with Vogue Talents. During this year’s event held on March 5, Yusuf Kalem from Turkey won the Gold Award. The designer presented his collection featuring vibrant colors inspired by the wings of scarabs decorating the ceilings of a Belgian palace. The young designer, who graduated from Yeditepe University, convinced the jury with his iconic garment: a fox and mink coat.
Sara Maino (Senior Editor of Vogue Italia & Vogue Talents), Gian Luigi Paracchini (fashion critic for “Il Corriere della Sera”), Tamu McPherson (founder of the famous blog All the Pretty Birds and street-style photographer), Gabriele Colangelo (fashion designer) and Malcolm McInnes (Group Director of Education at Istituto Marangoni) chose Yusef Kalem’s innovative design from among the 36 looks present.
Sophie Sälekari (Finland) took the REMIX Silver Prize thanks to her ability to combine mink and calf leather embellished with Swarovski crystals and sequins. The Finnish designer received a diploma in Fashion and Clothing Design from Aalto University in Helsinki. Lorenzo Sisi (Italy) won the Bronze Prize with his beaver and black mink coat, revealing his ability to combine such different furs. The Italian designer graduated from IED of Milan and wants to focus on menswear. Each year IFF, through REMIX, gives talented young designers from around the world the opportunity not only to show their innovative creations to an influential international audience but to also achieve global visibility through the traditional and online media that cover this competition each year.
The three winners will participate in a photo shoot by Vogue Italia scheduled to appear at the end of March on Vogue’s official website. Some 900 guests from the media, socialites, and fashion industry people attended. Chiara Ferragni – founder of theblondesalad.com – was also there and went backstage to greet and personally wish the young designers the best of luck.
